Solar Terrestrial Dispatch - Bushfinger Music Project

It's New Music Tuesday* - Episode Sixteen

Hey Folks- this week's edition of New Music Tuesday features a track consisting entirely of Garageband default loops. i.e., no "jam packs" (man, where the heck did I put that disk!)

A dancey, drum-and-bassy, trancey track, this one reminded me of outer space, so I named it "Solar Terrestrial Dispatch, because I thought it would be funny to have a song I could call "S.T.D.".

Enjoy!

Streetlight Flicker - Winter Circle

PROPS WHERE PROPS ARE DUE:

I stumbled on the "Garageband.com Faceoff" podcast about a two weeks ago (I was actually trying to find my own podcast on the podcastosphere).

Oklahomeboys, "Winter Circle" showed up a few episodes ago. Now, don't get me wrong- I really don't like "Streetlight Flicker"- Frankly, a bit to candy-coated for my taste. But dammit, just from the 40-50 seconds on the "faceoff", I can't get that damn chorus out of my head! Haven't even heard the full song and i'm singing "watch the color of the streetlight, flicka flicka" as i'm washing the dishes. "Okay- i gotta give em props", i said.

Actually the candy-coating reminds me of one of my first bands. (Hey- I was sixteen, gimme break!) I wrote them an email and signed it, "not necc. a fan but i know a well-written song when i hear one."

Visit Winter Circle at wintercircle.com and judge for yourself. If you like em, buy their album for Buddha's sake!

Jennifer Tuesday - Bushfinger Music Project

It's New Music Tuesday, Episode Fifteen*

Have you ever been walking from the parking lot to your office, and in those five minutes you've managed to write a song in your head? Then you might appreciate the 30-40 minutes it took to complete "Jennifer Tuesday".

Concrete Jungle - Bushfinger Music Project

New Music Tuesday - Episode Twelve

In the "old days" (like, a year ago before the thesis thing), a song like "Concrete Jungle" would have taken 1/2 a night- yeah 3-4 hours. But instead, it took about a week to envision and slap and edit and mix together. All in the inherently distractive and uncreative confines of my office! Don't get mad if you hear a revised version someday! :bmp:

Givin' Em Away - Cool Song Name(s)

Funny how interesting thoughts develop into interesting names... (and hopefully a song in the near future). At the moment:

Title: "Superlover"
Genre: Funk/Ska
Concept: comic book style super hero

Yeah, that's about as far as I've gotten so far. Now don't nobody be stealin' that now!

Worst Video Ever Awards

This is soooo not related to the Bushfinger Music Project...

gotta love YouTube- where old videos go to die. Looking for something COMPLETELY UNRELATED I stumbled across an old Village People video- of a song i've never heard? Which fosters the idea for the Worst Video Ever Awards. Nominations welcome.

Ode To Internet

So the other day as I was heading out the house, I thought, "y'know, I've never written a rap song..." This is a half a piece of a loose attempt... Perhaps, posted for the world to see, I may even finish it sometime before 2007... what with not being a rapper and all...

Ode to Internet

Way over my head
In the blogo-forum-sphere
the digital communicative space so weird
the oh so cool, designed to exclude
the clueless techno-speak. rude?
not so rude and now not so clueless to me.
and i know when ppl makin fun of me

Gimme a break- "PM sent"? WTF?
Took me about 2 months to figure that one out!
"Private Message"- why can people just say that, yo?!
O.M.G.R.O.F.L.M.A.O.?!?!
All of that designed to exlude
the masses from a special selection of interludes

PMs sent... What? You aint getting them?
Aaah- I guess you're not in the scene then
Audi... O.M.G. Do they still say that shit?
B.B.I.A.B. havin a heart attack...
And when my girl gets back you know she
gon' say what the emeffin hell is that?

i dont know because
i'm just a perpitrator
not an innovator like Dean Jones my man from Decatur
Groomed by the studio to be the next James Dean
Jailhouse Rock, Torpedo Run, Night of the Quarter Moon

Blackbeard's Ghost, 69 the The Love Bug
until the man swept his white ass under the rug
and now the only way you know his name is because
i thought to mention him before the refrain
its amazing the facts that infiltrate the brain

A Novel Mutation

A Novel Mutation in Human PAX9 Causes Molar Oligodontia

S.A. Frazier-Bowers1, D.C. Guo2, A. Cavender1, L. Xue2, B. Evans3, T. King2, D. Milewicz2, and R.N. D'Souza1,*

Experimental and animal studies, as well as genetic mutations in man, have indicated that the development of dentition is under the control of several genes. So far, mutations in MSX1 and PAX9 have been associated with dominantly inherited forms of human tooth agenesis that mainly involve posterior teeth. We identified a large kindred with several individuals affected with molar oligodontia that was transmitted as an isolated autosomal-dominant trait. Two-point linkage analysis using DNA from the family and polymorphic marker D14S288 in chromosome 14q12 produced a maximum lod score of 2.29 at {Theta} = 0.1. Direct sequencing of exons 2 to 4 of PAX9revealed a cytosine insertion mutation at nucleotide 793, leading to a premature termination of translation at aa 315. Our results support the conclusion that molar oligodontia is due to allelic heterogeneity in PAX9, and these data further corroborate the role of PAX9 as an important regulator of molar development.

Addicted to Addiction...

So I’m puttin it out there for folks who don't already know...

In my former life, I was a song writer extraordinaire. Where do you thing the phrase "new songs daily" originated?! (okay, *almost* daily). And with an audience of like, 7?, 8?, 9 of my closest friends? I was on the verge of internet stardomnesshood!

Then the Thesis thing started... Then the new car, Then the studio theft, Then more Thesis, blah blah blah (or is it yadda yadda yadda?)…

Well, just because I'm not "writing" new songs daily, doesn't mean I'm not thinking of 'em!

Yesterday I said to a colleague,
"Yeah- I wrote a song in the shower this morning. It took about
8 seconds for it to become a song. But it'll never get recorded."

And then the rest of the morning it- the song- was eatin' at me. I couldn’t stop thinking about what a cool song that would be! So what's an addict to do? I take 30-40 minutes of a lunch break and a couple GarageBand tracks and bust out a one-verse song. Sure it sounds a lot like another song, but it's still funny. To me anyway.

And I've only listened to it about 30 times in the last 24 hours!!!

Silverfish
just what are you?
Your are nature's

Well I know you aint a spider
and I know you aint a bee
You certainly not a roach and
I am sure you aint a flea

And I know you dont like water
yet you're always near a drain

Roach Larvae-Bushfinger Music Project

New Music Tuesday, Episode Ten: Roach Larvae*

Last week I was hired to create some music for a recruitment video for a major west coast (US) university. This *isn't* that product, but a result of a one-hour demo on GarageBand that same week. A quirky, latin-inspired track called "Roach Larvae" (don't ask!)

New Music Tuesday*, Episode Eight: Sick Day
Like most songs, yet another limerick based on a true story!

Sick Day - Bushfinger Music Project
I sprained, sprained my knee

I'm walking, slowly
My house, looks like sh**
My reasons, are legit

No love for running, or is it just no love?
Whatever, I'm still fu***d up
You should realize, can't you see
I.... Sprained my knee!

I can't walk, but that don't mean
That my job, don't need me
I called, called in sick
It ain't like, I can quit

No love for working, but is it just my luck?
Whatever, I'm still fu***d up
You can call me, and you will see
I.... Sprained my knee!

Rent Song

This special "New Music Tuesday, Episode Seven"* goes out to our good friend Reality:

Rent Song
"I got a letter the other day
couldn't believe what I read
It came from the landlord
and this is what it said (it said)
"you pay on time
you don't hurt nobody
but that don't mind...
cuz we're raising your rent!".

No- seriously! I got another one on Monday! I seriously need to sell that song!

New Music Tuesday*, Episode Six: Something Lovely

They say you can't keep a good man down...

Tossed flagrantly in the face of the recent theft of Bushfinger Studios (a.k.a Studio 239), we bounce back with the last track to make into the "near-completion" rack.

Say what you want to, it's a good idea, yet slightly unpolished. Frankly, we prefer the term, "patina". Besides its the principle of the thing right?

VIOLATED!

You may have noticed the lack of a New Music Tuesday this week. Well what can I say- someone broke into my office a summarily ripped off the entire recording studio... (And by broke-in, I mean, WHAT KINDA DUMBASSS leaves their office open and then walks away for 1hr and 15 minutes?!?)

Drums. gone.
Loops, microphone, effects rack, gone.
100+ original recordings of which only 1/2 are backed up somewhere, gone.

I could have squeezed out an oldy-but-goody to round out a month of "Bushfinger Classics", but frankly, i'm really depressed right now and can't seem to see the urgency in that.

We'll see what next week is like.

Bushfinger, out.

We Got It

New Music Tuesday*, Episode Five: We Got It

As we work on upgrading the "Scary Studio", we feature another "oldy but goody", "We Got It". Recorded under a full moon and empty glass. Sounds kinda like... wow lets see?

Love and Rockets?
Gary Numan?
80's Ozzy?
That one guy from N*Sync that had a solo album but no one ever really heard it?

You decide or make your own comparison. We're curious! Please visit the website at bushfinger.blogspot.com and let us know what *you* think of the track, of the show, and if you're from Siberia. Cuz we love folks from Siberia.

We should be back up and running with weekly "new stuff" next week. If you are an independent artist, band, or just some guy or girl using Apple's GarageBand or Logic in their living room, and would like to be featured on this show, just drop us a line (and hold the worm.)

Maybe

Episode Four: New Music Tuesday: Maybe

Despite a small setback, "New Music Tuesday" must go on!

Minus a subwoofer, it was next to impossible to write a new song for this week. So we dug into to the archives and found this nice guitar instrumental from a few months back.

Enjoy! And of course, we're still looking for quality tracks to feature on the show as well as your feedback!

Thanks for listening!

Crappy Microphone

It's Episode 3 of "The Bushfinger Music Project GarageBand Show", titled "Crappy Microphone". The song pretty much speaks for itself. Experimenting with show formats, "Episode 3" lacks the witty commentary and information from your's truly. ;)

If you really want to listen to the full show/ aka rough draft, you can get to it here:

Show Notes:
The audio of Episode 2- um... sucks?

This week we're using a Telex H-831 (hence the concept for this week's song, but better than last week's mic)

People actually like "The MINI Song". Someone has even suggested a video! (hmmm...)

We accept donations of money and equipment.

Yet Another Brush With Fame

I went to the drive-in movie
with a couple my friends.
The show was cool and funny
but that ain't where this story ends.

I told em all about the song
that won me a cool prize
and somebody that i barely know said
THAT WAS YOU?

Not a song, but should be! (A true story, too!)

If I hear the word EMO one more time...

Why I oughta...

Doing "research" on the 2006 Warped Tour line up, apparently every band since 2004 is "emo" now. What is emo?

"Emo (slang), a slang term used to describe a wide range of fashion styles and attitudes somewhat affiliated with emo music... ...In a 1985 interview by Rites of Spring in Flipside Magazine, members of the band noted that some of their fans in DC were starting to call them "emo", arguably because of the state of emotion that the band displayed during their shows. In later years, the word emo was viewed as a contraction of "emotional hardcore" or "emocore"...
[source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_%28slang%29]

Hrmmmph. Back in my day, we used call it... "rock and roll?"
